Aleksi was born inside the human kingdom of Adrealia--a nation known for its refusal to mingle with the supernatural population of Asmiara, and its elites, whose duty is to keep anything supernatural out of their lands. His mother was one of these elites. Through, females who joined the order were not allowed to go out onto the field of battle. No, a much different fate were in store for them. They were used as breeding stocks. It was figured out that if two elites conceived a child that this this child has a greater chance of developing powers just like his parents than if only one of the parents had been an elite.
Female elites are forced to have child after child until they either grow too old, or they die--most likely in childbirth. It was a horrible fate, and one that Aleksi's mother didn't see escaping when she found herself within the order. This ended up not being the case. She, unlike so many female elites, found the freedom from the order. It would never have happened it it wasn't for the man that would become his father. He saw the injustices within the treatment of females elites and decided to do something about it.
He set up an underground network that sneaked females elites out of the order, and brought them to places where the likelihood of them being dragged back was rare. He managed to help countless females--including Aleksi's mother--escape from the order in the course of several years, and during this time Aleksi's father went from the man that saved his mother to the man she married. However, their happily ever after was short lived. The leaders of the order got wind of the underground network and shut it down. His father was charged with high treason and executed, but his effort was not wasted. Most of the females that his father managed to rescue were not found, and the ones that were found refused to give their sisters up.
Aleksi's mother, however, would find death shortly after his father was killed for treason. She died giving birth to Aleksi's sister. He wasn't that much older than his sister, but he knew that it was up to him to provide for her. She would die if he didn't step up to the plate, but was unsure how to go about doing so. Many people might believe the answer was obvious. He just simply needs to find someone willing to take his sister and him in, but that was easier said than done in the best of circumstance.
There were many orphans within Adrealia, and most of them reside in the district--what the poorest neighborhoods within the various cities and towns across Adrealia are commonly referred as. The higher classes tend not to pay attention to the happenings of the district---especially within the lawless section. With the numbers of orphans within the district, the changes of the higher classes noticing Aleksi and his sister was very slim. Then there was the fact that Aleksi didn't wish for his sister and him to be noticed. His father was a known traitor, and he was afraid what would happen to his sister and him if that connection was found out.
There was only one thing for him to do. He took his sister into the lawless section, and did whatever he needed to provide for her. That turned out becoming a criminal like many of those within this section. He found that he had a natural talent for thievery. He started out as a simple pickpocket, and it was during this stage that he met the girl that became one of his closet friends--a girl whom remained his friend in spite the fact that she rose in status and left the district after her brother was taken in by the order. Over the course of the years, he moved from pickpocket to bigger things that lead him to venture out into the richer neighborhoods until he was breaking into the highest ranking members of societies' dwellings and stealing priceless heirlooms from them.
Somehow during rise from being a simple pickpocket to doing great heists his sister found a way out of the district, but his sister new improved lot in life did nothing to make him give up being a thief. It was the only thing he knew how to do. Besides, he enjoyed it. Being a thief was within his blood, and it was something he was good at. It didn't take long for people to catch wind of how good he was--from the authorities to fellow criminal within the district. The progression from lone thief to leader of a gang of thieves was only natural as other thieves realized there were great benefits in being part of a gang. Many people would think that eventually the authorities would catch him, and they do every now and then. However, he doesn't stay locked up for long. He escapes due to his own ingenious, or someone--like his sister--bailing him out of jail.

He still keep in touch with the two most important women in his lives, but he tries to keep his relationship with them hidden from the world. He knew how judgemental others can be, and he doesn't want to cause their happiness to shattered out from beneath them. He knows they wouldn't care what the rest of the world think, and they are gaining the power and privileged to keep the opinions of the world from having any real impact on their happiness--especially his childhood friend. Through, he is certain that her own recent development might have a bigger impact than being friends with the known king of thieves. She had become a fae. More than that she is now Queen of the Winter Court.
He doesn't know what this recent development means for their relationship. Will she have a place for someone like him in her life now? He knows that this fear is silly. He knows that his friend won't just cast him aside because of her new found identity, but he can't help fearing that he will lose one of the two people that he cares for most in the world. Some part of him even shares this fear where his sister is concerned, but the fact she is his sister makes him less afraid this fear will become a reality.
